I have come close to being bit by a rattlesnake, a gila monster, a black widow, and a scorpion. I drank the worm once. The smell of tequila makes me nauseous. I have stood on top of a 4,301 m mountain. I have swum through class 3 rapids. I own a large caliber pistol. I once caught a computer hacker that had a government clearance. The soccer team I coach will finish the season with a winning record. One of these statements is a lie. I am not telling which one. My friend list is maxed out - please feel free to add me but I apologize for not reciprocating.

Tell me what you think of me...

Red Square - 1967. Valentina Porishkova's third grade class was taking a field trip to St. Basil's. On the way back to the bus the kids were walking hand in hand with their partners for the trip. Elena Gagarin, mother of little Yuri, was chaperoning the trip and took this picture. The moment that she snapped the picture a sound rang out that she did not notice because of the loud click of the camera.

Dmitry Kalenoff (the boy looking to his right) did hear the sound and turned to see what it was. There was construction near the square that day and he shrugged it off as some rivet gun or hammer.

It was not a hammer. Across Red Square agents of two foreign governments working with a rogue general within the Soviet army had carefully hidden themselves in the attic of the 2nd Defense House. They had been there for three days, waiting for the right moment. A special long range sniper's rifle was mounted on a tripod and the scope was aimed across the square at the Senate Palace.

Another agent had been put in place a month before. In place at Elementary School 314. Her name was Anna Morskava. She was the girl in the front of the picture wearing the head scarf. Her papers listed her as a transfer student from Leningrad - her father having completed his doctorate in Mathematics at A. A. Zhdanov Leningrad State University had been assigned to the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau.

Anna was, in fact, a 19 year old woman with a rare genetic disorder, Primordial Dwarfism. She was also the daughter of Dr. Yuri Morskava - a physicist whose multidimensional theory of the universe met with such resistance from Feodor Alanikov, chief scientific adviser for the Supreme Soviet on all matters of astronomy and physics that Morskava was sent to the gulags. He did not survive. Anna wanted revenge. She made friends with all the wrong people (by Soviet standards). And now revenge was to be at hand. Anna had one other peculiarity besides her size - she had beyond normal vision.

The plan was simple. To kill Brezhnev, the killers would fire a single shot through the third story window of the Palace. The problem was that the only time Brezhnev was near the window was for the weekly update on grain and legume production quotas from the Agriculture Advisory Board (Brezhnev did not like this room and did not like agriculture so he used it to deal with the details of peanut and medicago production). The meeting was at 2:30 in the afternoon and the sun was casting a terrible glare off the window towards the 2nd Defense House. But down on the square the window was not in glare and Anna could see the Chairman. She simply pretended to sneeze at the right moment.

The shot rang out and at the moment of the shot a bird took off. Normally the high power of the shot would have gone straight through the bird but this bird had been shot at two years previously but survived with seven pellets inside him. The pellets deflected the bullet and the shot failed. There was no way to get a second shot off. Evidence of the shot was erased when the bird fell and a bus drove over the body.

Dejected, Anna escaped to the West, with the dream of joining a Traveling Jester troupe (the text books in Moscow were horribly out of date and the last Jester troupe had disbanded years before). So she ended up working at an AT&T call center.
